Frequently Asked Questions

1. What exactly IS the Computer Users Information Service?

The Computer Users Information Service is an advisory service funded from within the IT industry to provide you, the business IT user, with easy access to information on IT products and services to meet your business needs. Established in 1978 the CUIS covers all of mainland UK.

2. What sort of IT information can you give me?

We provide information on where to source any IT product or service, such as software applications, networking, IT support services, IT security, connectivity, Internet, e-commerce requirements etc. We hold specific information on hundreds of UK based IT companies and database directories of thousands of others. We now process around 600 enquiries a month from all over the UK, helping business IT users, like yourself, to find IT solutions to meet their needs.

3. How do I get access to this information?

It is fast and easy. You can access this information simply by 'phoning, emailing, faxing or visiting our web site. Your enquiry will be processed personally by a CUIS advisor, who will be pleased to listen to your requirements, using his skill and knowledge to provide the information you want. Information is provided by e-mail, by post or by 'phoning you back, whichever you prefer.

4. I use the Internet, so why do I need the CUIS?

Experience shows that, even with the Internet, IT decision makers can struggle to find appropriate information, easily and quickly, on where to source IT products and services. By contacting the CUIS, our advisors will listen to your needs and research the CUIS databases. Following a telephone conversation with you, we will provide appropriate information and/or suggested suppliers.

5. Sounds good, but is the CUIS really a No Charge service?

Yes. Because the CUIS is funded from within the IT industry, our information services are free to you, the business IT user, as often as you wish to use us. We are here to help you whenever required between Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, although you can send us an email or web enquiry whenever it is most convenient for you. We will process your enquiry promptly.

6. Will I get inundated with sales calls?

On the contrary. One of the benefits of the CUIS service is that it shields you from unwanted calls as we will provide you with a carefully selected shortlist of verified suppliers and hence save you from contacting and being contacted by a large amount of suppliers. When you are ready to talk to suppliers we can suggest relevant IT suppliers and introduce you to them personally.
